Study Area: Engineering
The design specifications of an infrastructure project affect not only the cost and timeline for implementing the infrastructure, but the environmental impacts as well.
While the EIA is underway, engineers develop and share information with the environmental team, like the potential paths the alternative alignments could take and cross-sections of what the EWA Extension could look like once construction is completed.
Key aspects:
- Engineering works with the environmental disciplines like Hydrology and Drainage and Terrestrial Ecology to design a roadway with minimal environmental disruption.
- Engineers take into account many factors including property impacts, construction materials, speed limits, sidewalks, and utility lines when developing designs.
